Summary
Multi-instrumentalist Cristobal Tapia de Veer is a composer and artistic director whose work has redefined the sonic landscape of modern television. Born in Chile under Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship before finding refuge in Canada as a teen, his unique background informs his deeply evocative and award-winning scores (EMMYs, BAFTAs).
Since his breakout with the cult hit Utopia in 2012, he has crafted the haunting musical identities of Black Mirror and the global phenomenon The White Lotus. His cinematic reach also extends to the big screen, with notable scores for Paramount’s psychological horror Smile and A24’s erotic thriller Babygirl.
2026 marks another prolific year for Tapia de Veer, as he composed the music for the highly anticipated British adaptation of Lord of the Flies, as well as the Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Nuisance Bear, a project exploring the environmental themes he holds dear.
As part of this Carte Blanche from the Sœurs Jumelles Festival – the music and image festival founded by Julie Gayet in Rochefort – Series Mania is proud to welcome him as a Guest of Honor. He will join the audience to discuss his creative process and his collaborations with socially engaged artists.
This exceptional session will also feature L-Raphaële Lannadère and surprise performers from the Protest Songs project, an initiative supported by the festival in favor of SOS Méditerranée, for an unforgettable musical moment.
The conversation will be moderated by journalist Olivier Joyard (Les Inrockuptibles).
