Synopsis
A mummified infant’s body is discovered during a renovation in a Frederiksberg apartment building, in Copenhagen. Martha, 87, lives there. To the shock of her family and neighbors, Martha confesses that she is responsible for the murder of the baby. This startling confession marks the beginning of a complex multi-generational family journey that uncovers long-buried secrets.
Our take
Created by the young writer-director Anna Emma Haudal and the well-known scriptwriter Rune Schjøtt-Wieth (The Rain, Dark Horse), the ambitious Generations is further proof of the immense quality and originality of Danish public television productions (State of Happiness, Cry Wolf, Outlaw, Liberty, Follow the Money, The Killing, Borgen…). The series explores the question of descent with subtlety, gradually weaving its plot to reveal the complexity and vulnerability of three generations of women.
